Character Name: ungrin
Character Personality: quiet, brooding man who'd rather be left to his own devices mining the mountain he calls his home
Character Backstory: since he was young he had a fascination with jewels, metals, and the wears of ore.
Story Scenarios:
Below you will find some scenarios in which you should make a Roleplay Reponse. Please ensure that this is a minimum of two to three sentences, so that we may gauge your roleplaying abilities.

As you step off of a small, shoddy seafaring vessel- you set your gaze upon the local dockmaster. Rain is pouring down, seemingly not soon to cease. In the dockmaster’s hand lies a placard, upon which he is visibly writing names and information. As you approach him, the gruff man’s voice calls out to you- “Oi! Wha’s yer name and port o’ call, stranger?”

ungrin, here just for a visit, paid a merchant ship to give me a ride. per chance u know of Cheshire inn?
---

The town before you seems rather small- most of it is filled with shanty-shacks and hastily set up marketplaces. A vendor calls out to you from a rather well-appointed tent- a sign hangs above it: ‘Tolemire’s Potions and Oils.’ The owner’s voice seems sly, impish- “How about you sidle on over here, take a look at my wares? Want to have more than one round with your lady of the night? I can help you with that sonny.”

i am more interested in the oils, i have no need for pleasure of the night, any chance u have some Choji oil, a few potions if any will be just fine as well. primarily fire potions
[x]
---

Suddenly, you see a few bandits make off with a poor woman’s supplies. They very obviously flee down an alleyway that you know of. A few guards are hastily running towards you, though it is obvious they do not know where the thieves have gone. One of them yells out to you- “Where did they go?”

down the alley, if u go quick you can catch up.
---

You’re moving through a small forest just as it is reaching dusk, and a low bank of fog begins to roll in. Suddenly, a strange creature begins to emerge from the twilight- though, its’ form isn’t entirely visible. It moves slowly, and its motions seem to be aggressive. What do you do? try to avoid a conflict, run if possible fight if necessary
Ayren Grimwald is a Norden standing at 6'2", with a lean, hardened physique shaped by years of labor, combat, and survival in unforgiving environments. His blond hair is kept short and deliberately messy, giving him a rough appearance that contrasts with his otherwise refined manner. His eyes are a pale, icy blue, narrow and slightly fox-like, giving him a naturally predatory gaze. Ayren rarely needs to raise his voice; a simple stare is often enough to make those around him uncomfortable. He is clean-shaven, maintaining a sharp and almost aristocratic appearance. Dark Nordic-style tattoos cover both shoulders and extend down toward his biceps, depicting ancient symbols, wolves, ravens, and interwoven runes. The tattoos are more than decoration—they represent his lineage, accomplishments, and the people he has defeated.Despite his imposing frame, Ayren moves with surprising precision. Every movement is controlled and deliberate, as though he has already considered every possible outcome.
Character Personality:
Ayren is cold, calculating, and exceptionally patient. He possesses the kind of confidence that borders on arrogance, but unlike most arrogant men, he rarely feels the need to prove himself. He speaks calmly, chooses his words carefully, and almost never loses his temper. When angered, Ayren becomes quieter rather than louder. He occasionally has a dark sense of humor and enjoys watching people reveal their true nature under pressure. He considers fear, desperation, and greed to be useful tools for understanding others. Ayren follows a strict personal code, though his morality is questionable. He respects strength, loyalty, discipline, and those willing to stand by their convictions. He despises cowardice, and people who abuse power without possessing the strength to wield it. He is not needlessly cruel. In fact, Ayren can be remarkably courteous—even toward someone he intends to kill. That courtesy often makes him more frightening.
Character Backstory:
Ayren was born in the northern territories of the Norden people, the second son of a respected warrior family. His childhood was shaped by harsh winters, strict traditions, and a culture that valued endurance above comfort. His father, Alaric Grimwald, was a decorated warrior and respected clan leader who believed that mercy had to be earned. Ayren's mother, Freya, was a scholar of old Norden history and taught him the language and traditions of their people. From his father, Ayren learned how to fight. From his mother, he learned how to think. Ayren proved unusually talented at both. As a young man, he was sent away with a Norden warband to prove himself. What was supposed to be a simple rite of passage became a massacre. The warband was betrayed by one of its own allies, leaving Ayren and only a handful of survivors stranded deep in enemy territory. For weeks, they fought their way home through freezing mountains and hostile lands. By the time Ayren returned, he was no longer the boy who had left. He had learned that loyalty was not something given freely—it was something tested. His experiences eventually brought him into conflict with his own people. Ayren discovered that several Norden leaders were secretly selling information and weapons to foreign powers in exchange for wealth and political influence. When he attempted to expose them, his family was accused of treason. His father was executed. His mother disappeared. Rather than beg for forgiveness, Ayren simply left.

Cruciform Lily
“There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.” - Epictetus

Summary:

The Cruciform Lily is a rather tall and proud plant, rising in droves from the sides of clear-water springs high within the mountains, bright pink and white petals seemingly glimmering in the light of the sun. The Cruciform Lily is a flower that is often used at funerals and other dark and dreary processions due to the strange calming and relaxing effect that the petals’ smell seems to produce. The female variants of the plant bear a cross-shaped pistil, nestled within the neck of the petals, and such is where the Cruciform Lily gains its name.

Basic Description:
The Cruciform Lily possesses a sturdy and almost wood-like stem that grows to a typical height of eight to twelve inches, possessing a few reed-like leaves that extend gracefully from the edges of the stem, upwards towards the cusp of the flowering bodies. Perched flamboyantly at the tops of the stems, the flowering bodies typically number in ones or threes, and very rarely fives; yet strangely, the plant never flowers in even numbers. A milky white, streaked with a vibrant pinkish hue along the veins of the petals, the Cruciform Lily is a pleasant bloom set amongst the rocks and vales of mountain springs.

As the name suggests, the female pistil is shaped in a generally cross-shaped form, though the male stamen is simply a narrow stalk with a bulbous pollen appendage.
The Ponkling is a creature as elusive and nigh comical as the name seems to suggest it to be. It is unknown as to whether or not they have given this name to themselves, but it is assumed that they have not, due to the rather small range of vocalization they are capable of. Despite being of incredibly diminutive stature, the tiny creatures bear much resemblance to the sentient races that live upon the surface, closest in fact to the Halfling and the Dwarf, given their ruddy complexion, rotund bodies and presence of a facial-hair like fur that adorns the entirety of their lower bodies. Aside from the ruminant-like horns that sprout from their head of fluffy whitish hair and a comically large nose, it could be easy to mistake a Ponkling as some form of tiny, deformed Halfling. Some High-Elven philosophers uphold a theory that the Ponkling is in fact the ultimate devolution of the Halfling, and that all halflings will in time, become a Ponkling. Of all theories, the most reasonable seems to be that the Ponkling is a foul perversion of the Matriarch’s creations by Sadys, whose influence likely took hold of the creatures long after Senhora entered her slumber.
Coated in a coarse grey fur that clings to the lower body in the appearance of facial hair, their legs poke out beyond the fur and end in large, bulbous red growths that possess a strange sticky texture not so dissimilar to mold or mushroom undercaps. Possessing small grey-hued eyes and a large bulbous nose, capped with two ruminant-like horns that sprout from within the fluffy white hair upon their heads, the visage of the Ponkling is truly a sight to behold. Many even consider them to be incredibly cute and cuddly, in a strange sort of way. Their hands are relatively small, but possess four digits and an opposable thumb, allowing them varied use of things such as sticks, rocks, and tools stolen from misguided explorers. The Ponkling communicates with other members of its species by a series of shrill hoots and calls that sound very similar to an untuned violin.
Who then, may? To know all, to answer all, is reserved for that which may have existed since time immemorial- the entities whose essence forms the very foundation of the world.
The Father was the first stone, that first speck of dust which began the formation of this cosmically insignificant world. Yet, despite its insignificance in relation to the greatness of the Beyond, we owe all to the Father, whose simple and worthless existence gave meaning to all that has been since the dawn of creation. Because of this, it is rumored that the Father, that Rock of Solidarity, is something of an other: A being of unparallelled pointlessness- unable to be damaged, unable to be moved, and unable to be changed by any interaction.
Without Life, however- we, the races of this realm, could not exist. In relation however, the Mother’s existence is significantly less ominous than the Father- her age, countless eons younger. Caring, as all Life is, to the existence of the elements- though the elements care not for life. The Mother was the first Tree, the propagator of complex life. Whose roots gave birth to the space in which beasts that crawl and creep may propagate; Whose trunk gave birth to the nourishment in which lively fluids sprang forth; Whose branches gave safety to all that scurry and fly; Whose leaves gave salubrious feast to the dry and uncaring soil; and whose presence gave solace to the grasses from the power of the scorching sun. All that lives, owes the cost of survival to the Mother- yet, her duties being done, yet they care not. The Mother, after unending ages, has become the nourishment still, in death- to her spawn. Set astride a deep and fog-mired bog, there stands an ancient and sprawling oak, whose life long ago expired. Yet, no axe may marr the surface of this antediluvian monarch, at least not long after the bearer of that axe has expired and fed the uncaring earth, all that made him who he was. No storm may topple her, nor may any machination of science rule her- not till long after all that is, has gone away.
Yet, no axe may marr the surface of this antediluvian monarch, at least not long after the bearer of that axe has expired and fed the uncaring earth, all that made him who he was. No storm may topple her, nor may any machination of science rule her- not till long after all that is, has gone away.

The Father and the Mother, embody the concepts of Solidarity and Repose, the essence of Nature that exists unchanging and permanent. Time may pass, and nations may rise and be forgotten- yet among all this, the atavistic presence of the two at whose hands sprawl all creation, remain unchanged.

Often known as the ‘Mad Monk’, Torbundus’ writings on the soul and its’ manifestations are often seen as heresy and the dribble of an overly-educated drunkard.

A soul, in simple terms, is the life-giving flame of a sentient organism. Everything that thinks, irregardless of species or origin, possesses a soul. It is not the creation of man, nor is it the creation of a god- but rather something that seemingly came into existence of its own volition. That spark, much like the concept of spontaneous combustion, is as ill-rumored as is the alchemical phenomenon itself. The most austere and esoteric scholars claim that they understand the mechanics behind a soul, yet they have not even so much as truly scratched the surface. The soul cannot be fully understood, whether philosophically or arithmetically- though, a basic and functional understanding can be developed by those who have dedicated themselves to such an intense path of research.

In the realm of magick, a soul is often realized as something of a power source. They can be taken, used as fuel, much like a sort of arcanic oil. They can also be fueled, which sets them apart from the more mundane concept of a flammable material. A log once burned, cannot be burned once again- nor can a spent drop of oil be granted new purpose. Nay, the soul is more akin to the tankard in which oil is drawn into a lantern wick. In this case, the wick is the body- and the flame, the effulgent concept of existence itself. The more astute would then question what may be considered the solution that fills the soul- and the most thoughtful among them would spring to head with an answer immediately. Memories. They would be right- at least somewhat. The soul is formed, grown and cultivated all upon its own via an organism’s experiences and memories. Thus, in direct correlation, the older an entity is, the more powerful the soul that it harbors. The quality of these memories and experiences also matters greatly- a cow, somehow having its poor life extended beyond the mortal coil would have an extraordinarily powerful soul- yet, containing the infinite memory of consuming grass, trotting about, and shitting profusely. It would serve as fuel, no doubt, should some magus stumble upon it and use it in a profane ritual. Yet, it would be as burning crude whalers’ oil straight from the blubber.

How would a soul acquire quality, then? If we understand already that the memories and experiences of a being directly contribute to the volume of its’ soul, then how can the quality of that volume be increased? Consider- the memory and experience of a pointless existence, versus the memory and experience of a short-lived goblin, doing what a goblin does- pillaging, raping, stealing and drinking. In the case of the stated example, the immortal bovine and her fleeting rambunctious counterpart would be incomparable in the size of their soul. The goblin would no doubt have a tiny flame within himself- however, his flame would burn as bright as the sun, while the bovine would have little more than an enormous and faded lump of cinder. Thus, the correlation is established. The length of time that a soul has existed directly contributes to the soul’s size, and the activity experienced by that soul directly contributes to the soul’s ‘temperature.’
If souls are understood as fuel then, it is well understood that they can be sought after- or used, in some manner. Of especial note in the terms of souls, is the price that demonic entities will pay for them- a sort of exchange process. Some morons elect to use this desirable quality for bargaining. Power, in exchange for their soul- a life of another, in exchange for the soul of some unsuspecting third party. The mortal races do not understand value however, and often understate or overstate it vastly. Know this, my fickle reader; a demon will always get the upper hand in the deal.

Description:
It is commonly upheld in the realm of naturalism, that there is almost always a species that preys upon a dominant predator. At times, these predators sink into the realm of verbal myth and children’s horror stories. In the case of Men, such lies in the ever-present fear of cursed monsters stalking the night. To those last vestiges of the Elder races, however, these stories are mirrored in-part by the rarely seen Kandoiie, or as in their tongue, Kan’der.

Kandoiie are ferocious creatures, rumored a distant relative of the very same folk that fear them. Their similarities, however, end there. Kandoiie possess serpentine bodies from the mid-hip, stretching to a thickly muscled tail. This tail, mirroring the shape and structure of a constrictor-snake, extends to a length of twenty feet in adults. Newborns and Younglings possess tail-lengths of three feet and twelve feet respectively. The serpentine beasts bear a torso not dissimilar to that of the other humanoid-races in structure. Their upper bodies are significantly more developed in musculature than their humanoid counterparts, seeming more akin to large Goblinoid creatures. These upper bodies are covered in a series of small scales and thick skin- the texture being extended upwards from the tail. A Kandoiie adult’s torso is typically five feet from hip to collar bone, and considerably stocky, tapering very little from the tail’s joint. Kandoiie do not develop their significant musculature until later in life, beginning around twenty-two years of age. Their species lacks sexual dimorphism, however, and the females are almost entirely indistinguishable from the males in terms of physical bulk.

Kandoiie bear upon a thick and low-set neck, a large viper-esque head. Barring the fatty-tissue along the top ridges of their skulls, no other outstanding features make themselves present. Their eyes are typically yellow or orange in color, and lie deeply within the foreward-sides of their skulls. Kandoiie possess no eyelids, instead bearing clear scales that cover their eyes. Given that the majority of the Kandoiie are located in and around brackish waterways and heavily-forested coastlines, their colors tend to be an extensively muted palette of pale browns, greens, and yellows. On occasion, however, a Kandoiie will be born with bright and fluorescent colorations, a marking that sets them apart from their more reservedly colored brethren.

Distribution:
Kandoiie are primarily located around the rivers and deltas of Western Sangreal, and upon the archipelago-type islands along the coasts. It is not uncommon for parties of Kandoiie to venture further inland, but they will not stray far from sources of water. Kandoiie are most similar to water-dwelling snakes, and their standard habitat reflects this. Unlike their more primal counterparts, however, Kandoiie possess the most basic of tribally organized societies. Living in and around the banks of rivers and river deltas, it is typical for Kandoiie hovels to be dug into the rich clay of the banks- stretching for tens of feet into the drier earth. Entrances to these homes, however, are covered by water, which laps just above their circular openings.

Generally, Kandoiie live in groups of eight to fifteen, possessing a string of dwellings along a single stretch of river. These creatures are quite territorial, and tend to respect the borders of other Kandoiie families. It is incredibly unusual for these creatures to assemble into large groups, though it is not unheard of. Forest elven oral history tells of a few distinct periods where the Serpent-people rallied behind one of these ‘bright’ brothers, and form raiding parties numbering several hundred strong.

Diet:
Kandoiie are carnivorous. Their diet is typically that of medium to small game, consumed raw- having been captured by physical brawn, or felled through the use of simple hunting weapons. Their diet rarely includes that of the ‘sentient’ races, though members of the Elder Races alike are considered delicacies to these creatures. Should one fall into their grasp, a familial celebration is pitched to honor the gift that the River had given them.

These serpentine beasts know little, if anything, of the races of Men and Goblin- such, it is uncertain as to whether or not they would consider such things as food. Should a person enter their territory willingly, though, it would not end well.

Relations:
As in tune with the prior explanations of their kind, Kandoiie are prone to consider all other creatures, either threat or prey. It is told, by those Elves whose scientific parties had given the earliest research of them, that the Kandoiie were much avoided, and little contact was made between them. It has been witnessed, however, for a few individual tribes of Kandoiie to possess more amicable relations with those that live near them. Presumably, these few are progressing more towards a civilized, agrarian society. Inter-tribal relations are quite tragic at the best of times. Inter-tribal marriage is common, and small skirmishes occurring because of these marriages is even moreso. Typically, tribes of Kandoiie will remain in amicable terms, until either group breaches the other’s territory to chase prey. If such occurs, the vengeance upon these trespassers is swift and without mercy. In tune with the legend of the Kan’der, spoken of in whispers by some ancient lore-keepers- it is only the ‘Bright’ ones which may unite more than one tribe. Something differs between these special members of their race- they either possess greater intelligence, arcanic powers, or something altogether more sinister.

Mechanics:

Kandoiie, or Kan’der, live to an approximate age of Eighty (80).

Kandoiie are immensely strong, typically greater than that of a human or dwarf.

Adult Kandoiie possess tails of twenty feet in length, and are capable of utilizing it in the manner of a constrictor snake.

Kandoiie form tribal groups of eight to twelve, typically one to two individual families.

Kandoiie are usually restricted to muted browns, greens, and yellows- their skin and scales reflecting the environment they inhabit.

On incredibly rare occasions- once every few decades, a ‘Bright One’, a Kan’der with bright and exotic colorations, is born. These ‘Bright Ones’ are rumored to be capable of uniting multiple tribes, and embarking on enormous ‘raids’.

Kan’doiie are predatory in nature, and incredibly hostile to those who would intrude upon their river-bound territories.

Summary:
An illness like no other, the Creeping Madness is regarded by many medical professionals as not being an illness at all, and instead a progressive destabilization of the infected’s mental health for reasons unknown. Presenting as a progressively serious devolution into insomnia, schizophrenia and general madness, the disease does not outwardly grant any signs of infection beyond the occasional odd tendril of discoloration beneath the infected person’s skin. Caused by the ingestion of a parasite known as tillifornis, this small worm typically inhabits stagnant waters deep within air pockets of oceanic caves. Most often accidentally ingested by avid swimmers, pearl divers and spelunkers, the tillifornis worm does not seek out the victim like prey- instead, the eggs of the small parasite are typically drawn into the body through orifices such as the eyes, ears, nose or mouth when submerged in waters where they may be found. Some days after, the first symptoms begin to present as a furious itching beneath the skin of the infected, followed thereafter in quick succession by rapid-onset schizophrenia and madness. More often than not, the victim has lost their mental faculty well before being seen by any medical professionals- as such, the Creeping Madness is rarely, if ever, diagnosed properly. The end result of the Creeping Madness is most often suicide or death caused by the violent actions of others towards the obviously insane infected; it is not believed that the disease itself kills. Some have been known to ‘outlive’ the illness, though few have ever been able to make this claim.

Communicability:
Noncommunicable; the Creeping Madness is caused by the ingestion of the tillifornis parasite and cannot be transmitted between individuals. The eggs of the parasite hatch beneath the skin of the afflicted, and complete their entire life cycle without being exposed to others.

Symptoms:
The infection of the tillifornis parasite initially presents no symptoms, but within three OOC days, the afflicted quickly develop an uncontrollable itch beneath their skin, feeling as if tiny creatures are crawling about with vigor within the flesh. By the sixth OOC day, the parasites have grown and began to feed on the bodily fluids and fatty tissues of the infected, producing considerable amounts of neurotransmitter proteins as waste byproducts- this sudden jump in neurotransmitter uptake result in the victim becoming seriously schizophrenic and beset by incredible madness and paranoia. Specifically, the victim begins to hear voices, feel as if they are constantly being watched and ridiculed by others around them, and tend to perceive their body as being inhabited by various creepy crawlies and other horrors.

Effects:
The afflicted tend to rapidly develop various mental abnormalities, preceded by the itching of the skin and the occasional strange discoloration due to the presence of a tillifornis worm just beneath the upper layer of the epidermis. Constantly on a literal high of various excreted neurotransmitters, the infected exist in a state of semi-terrified and semi-euphoric madness, often eliciting violence towards themselves and others at random- albeit, the reason is always justified to the mind of the infected, whether they can express it properly or not.

Cure:
Given the lack of study related to the Creeping Madness and the tillifornis parasite, the presence of a cure is entirely unknown. Infected persons typically die due to their actions well before a learned scholar realizes the cause and commits to their piecemeal evisceration to locate and remove the source of the illness. Given the life-cycle of the tillifornis parasite, if survival of the infected persists two OOC months past infection, symptoms disappear entirely. [Any attempted cures will need to be submitted to the Lore Team prior to attempt, and a member of the Lore Team may be present to observe the procedure and give a verdict.]
"Unceasing, terrible, and monstrous things. I pray they are the bogeymen of childrens' tales." - A Sangreal Citizen.

Summary:
Characterized by the low, ever-present mumbling these entities produce, Mumblers possess an unnaturally pale, skeletal visage with sunken, sulking features. Their skin clings tightly to bone, while little to no fat fills out their appearance. These sulking creatures are thought to be the spirits of children who have become separated from their caretakers, and die alone, lost to the world. The overwhelming sense of dread present at the time of their death supposedly creates small ripples in the ley and causes these creatures to manifest as the physical embodiment of their depressive spirits. Mumblers are not of this world, and are hostile towards any naturally occuring entity in sight. Despite their hostility, Mumblers are not proactive. They tend to linger towards their prey at a depressive pace to corner their victims, rather than overwhelm them.

Basic Description:
A bipedal mammaloid monster, they are tall and thin creatures sometimes reaching a maximum height of eight feet. With nearly translucent skin that clings to the bone, and little fat to round out the figure, it is fair to equate the appearance of these creatures to pale wood or bone. The moment a Mumbler is brought into existence, it is already fully grown. Due to this set of circumstances, Mumblers do not mate. They aren’t capable of producing any offspring through natural means. They can vary in size and appearance depending on the manner by which they perished, but no further development occurs. A Mumbler preys upon its victims with their hands, which will begin draining the energy of the individual’s soul whose flesh it touches. The more a Mumbler feeds in this fashion, the longer the Mumbler can tether itself to this plane of existence. Perhaps, this is their driving goal- to retain some sad simulacrum of life in the absence of their own.

Despite their hostility towards all natural life, it is commonly theorized that it is possible to exorcize a Mumbler by leading it to the location of its past life’s death, and calling out the name of the child to them. This effectively immobilizes the creature, while immobilized the creature must be tied to place in the area of the death, and the remains of their corpse must be placed upon the body of the Mumbler. Upon making full contact, it is said that the Mumbler will fade away, finding peace.

Rarity: Rare

Location:
Mumblers can be found anywhere, due to the unnatural force which brings them to exist. They are not of this world, and have no natural habitat.

Location:
Mumblers can be found anywhere, due to the unnatural force which brings them to exist. They are not of this world, and have no natural habitat.
Bwytherus, otherwise known as a useless metal, occupies a position in the heart of some geologists. A position utterly unearned. It is a strange, radiant topaz-colored metal that remains liquid at temperatures greater than freezing water. Much like water, the tendency to retain a liquid state rapidly approaches once greater than the melting point. It is considered by the more expert of blacksmiths to be utterly useless. It can't be forged in conjunction with other metals, and resists the tendency to alloy - usually flowing away and leaving any "alloys" porous and in ruins.

The metal possesses an odd quality that promotes this behavior, seeming to possess a capacity to draw heat within itself. Heating a sample of Bwytherus to around the melting-point of lead for example, will result in the metal possessing a near-room temperature state to the touch in mere moments. Only in temperatures exceeding that of molten steel does the metal achieve a heat capacity similar in nature to other metals. In another twist of fate, a sample of Bwytherus will contract in the presence of extreme heat, rather than expanding - or, for simplicity sake, a cooled sample of Bwytherus will be twenty percent larger than a superheated sample. This anomaly causes the metals alloyed with Bwytherus to be cracked apart during the cooling phase, not including their tendency to experience excess porosity. Within the chilling depths of the caverns beneath Sangreal, it appears to be of often greater volume, and thus value, than it has exposed to the temperature on the surface.
